Bridges Educational Corporation is putting one foot in front of the other to support autism awareness by participating in the 9th Annual San Diego Race for Autism on March 30.
The 5K walk and run, produced by the National Foundation for Autism Research, raises funds for autism research, educational programs, parent programs as well as treatments and services. This year Bridges hopes to raise more than $1,000.
“Participating in events in the community, such as the NFAR walk, is our way to give back and get involved,” said Bridges Executive Director of Educational Services Erin Dyer Zwahlen, Ph.D. “With World Autism Day coming up on April 2, it’s more important than ever to show our support for this important cause and to raise autism awareness in the local community.”
This is the 8th year Bridges has participated as a sponsor as well as supplied racers for the 5K walk and run. It is striving to have more than 25 participants on the Bridges team, an increase from last year’s turn out.
San Diego-based Bridges is an organization that provides services based on the principles of applied behavior analysis and focuses on behavior, research-based intervention, developmental guidance and educational services for autism.
All the money that is raised will stay in the San Diego community to help local children with autism. The San Diego Race for Autism is the only autism race that donates 100 percent of its proceeds back to the local community. Every step represents a child with autism in San Diego.
The race will be held in Balboa Park at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Laurel Street. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with the run and walk kicking off at 8 a.m. The event includes a 5K timed run, a 5K Walk, a 1-Mile Family Fun Walk, refreshments, a resource fair, children’s activities, an awards ceremony, raffles and music.
Pre-registration is $35 for adults, $25 for 13- to 16-year-olds and $20 for children under 12 years old. To register, visit www.nfar.kintera.org. For more information on Bridges Educational Corporation, visit www.bridgesaba.com or call 619-952-8509.
